| The PICK OS dates back to the 1960s. A database management system called DM512 was initally developed by Dick Pick and Don Nelson as part of a government project for Cheyenne helicopters to keep track of parts. It was later introduced to the commercial marketplace and soon renamed the PICK Operating System. Development of the operating system continued on IBM mainframes and in 1974 a company called Microdata developed a programmable computer system based on PICK and called the OS "Reality". Thousands of machines were sold running the Reality operating system, mainly to small to middle-sized businesses. PICK was soon ported to other machines and so followed other flavours of the popular operating system, mvBASE, D3, Unidata, Universe.
